Being Romantic

We discussing what it means to be romantic in class, also how it is a different concept 100 years ago than what it is now. In today's age people care more about themselves than other people and in the past someone would find out what their partner truly liked and take the time to go the extra mile to please them. In my opinion people (in the past and today) are more "romantic" when they're in fear of losing their partner. They tend to pay more attention to them, do small favors for them and just show how much they are about them. Today (from what I've been told) men stop buying flowers for their girlfriend or writing them nice notes or giving them flowers once they're married. Often times when someone has been dumped they create very romantic poetry and songs; it brings out a lot of artistic characteristics in them. They may or may not be in immediate danger of losing their partner/love in order to be romantic but it seems that if a relationship is more concrete people get comfortable and don't often show how much they care to the other person, which is a shame.
